THIS book is a practical guide wlhiclh deals with imiost of the cond(litionis which come wvithin the scope of plastic surgery as practised in the British Isles. The first six chapters arc devoted to basic principles such as the' use of free skin grafts, flaps and tube pedicles, transplantation of tissues othelthan skini and the treatment of wounds, burns, frostbite, scars and(i keloids. The next nine chaipters dleal wvith the practice of plastic surgery as applied to the various regions (of the body an(d the last chapter rliscusses the use of prostheses and their management. At the end of eachi chapter there is an excellent bibliography in which the American author has made due acknowledgement to the contributions of British and Continental surgeons. The book does not set out to be an encyclopaedia of plastic surgery and the author has been wise to confine hiis descriptions to methods which, from his own practical experience and that of his colleagues, hie k;nows to be successful. As a result he has wvritten a book which provides an excellent introduction to the speciality and which at the same time contains much practical information which would be of value to the general surgeon.
